Justin Black
Founder & Director β Nurse Practitioner
I'm Justin Black, a Nurse Practitioner with over 25 years of experience in weight loss, general practice, emergency care, paediatrics, intensive care, and chronic disease.
After serving as Clinical Director at one of Australia's largest weight loss clinics β where patients could see one of more than 100 clinicians, each with a different approach β I started Downscale with a simple idea: you should always know who your clinician is. Here, you see me, every time.
My approach is patient-centred, practical, and sustainable. I understand the realities of busy lives and the ups and downs of treatment. My focus is on getting people to their goal weight and, most importantly, helping them stay there β without pressure, without judgement, and without unnecessary appointments.
I also believe treatment should be as affordable as possible. There are many ways to make this work (π) and I'll always be upfront about the best options. Patients book their own follow-ups on their terms β because this is about your life, not my schedule.

Kendall Gow
Nurse Practitioner Β· Clinical Nutritionist Β· Sexologist Β· Credentialled Diabetes Educator
I'm Kendall Gow, a Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of clinical experience across women's and men's health, weight management, metabolic disease, and sexual health. My background spans advanced nursing practice, clinical nutrition, diabetes education, and sexology, allowing me to support patients in a truly holistic and evidence-based way.
I have worked in medical and surgical weight management since 2014, providing nutritional and clinical support alongside bariatric surgeons and specialist teams. Over this time, I've also led rapid weight loss programs in collaboration with urological surgeons and developed structured nutrition programs designed to help people better understand their bodies, metabolism, and long-term health.
My approach is grounded in practical, compassionate care. I focus on helping people improve their health in ways that are realistic, sustainable, and respectful of their individual circumstances. I have a particular interest in the intersection between metabolic health, chronic disease, and sexual wellbeing, recognising that quality of life is about far more than numbers on a scale.
In addition to my clinical work, I am a sessional academic at Edith Cowan University, teaching across undergraduate and master's nursing programs. I also contribute to national health education as a member of the Healthy Male Health Practitioners Advisory Board, working alongside Healthy Male and Movember to support evidence-based public health messaging in men's health and wellbeing.
I'm proud to be part of the Downscale team and to work within a model of care that values transparency, continuity, and genuinely patient-centred outcomes.

Amanda Hutchins
Nurse Practitioner
Hi, I'm Amanda and I've spent most of my career working in rural healthcare, caring for people over the last 15 years across emergency, acute and community settings. In these environments, you see the full picture of someone's health β not just one issue, but how everything connects over time, from chronic conditions to lifestyle and day-to-day challenges.
Working in rural settings has really shaped how I approach my care as a Nurse Practitioner. My style is supportive, practical and straightforward. My training focused on rural generalist practice, which is centred on improving access to care and ensuring people receive the support they need, regardless of where they live.
Through my rural healthcare experience, I've learnt that the most effective care is grounded in real life. You learn very quickly that health isn't about perfect plans or quick fixes β it's about what's realistic and important to the person so they can sustain it in their everyday lives. Access to services in rural areas can be limited, so the focus becomes about practical, meaningful changes that improve outcomes.
I'm particularly passionate about long-term health and the prevention of secondary complications, because I've seen firsthand the impact that early support and the right strategies can have. That's why I value being part of the Downscale team β their approach strongly aligns with my own, focusing on achievable, long-term outcomes and supporting people in ways that fit into real life.
